Abstract

With the influence of consumerism and rapid technological development, hi-tech products have shorter life cycles and are accumulating in landfills, causing environmental and health issues. Ecodesign is a proactive strategy aiming to reduce environmental impact during product design. Although many tools and methods exist, they often fall short in usability across all design phases. This study surveys design experts to understand their needs and to help define requirements for a holistic ecodesign tool. The findings highlight key needs including up-to-date information, multi-disciplinary collaboration, motivation, and creative environments.
